CANADIAN LAWN GUARDIAN/ Beneficial Nematodes (Kills Lawn Grubs) Latin name: Heterorhabditis bacteriophora and Steinernema Spp. Seen on CityLine June, 2010 Are skunks or raccoons digging up your lawn? Do you have large patches of dead grass? These are signs you have lawn grubs. Lawn Grubs are the larval stage of May/June Beetles, Japanese Beetles and European Chafers. Lawn Guardian consists of beneficial nematodes that are microscopic worms which are native to Canada. Lawn Guardian is a mix of two nematodes, one that is close to the surface approximately 3” and one that goes deeper approximately 7”. NIC nematodes are isolated Canadian Strains that are Produced by NIC in Ontario, on a live host. They are fresher, more keyed to Canadian pests and 100% organic. In the spring (May) when soil temperature is 10C (50F) or warmer and grubs are seen in the soil. An application will stop grubs from damaging your grass roots. Apply in autumn (end of August to September) eliminating grubs thus preventing fall and following springs damage. Next years application should be in the fall. 100% Safe for people, pets, plants and even earthworms. The lower mainland In BC is considered a microclimate so if applying nematodes for chafer beetle in this area, the optimal application time is mid July to mid August. Safer’s BTK™ Biological Insecticide is highly specific to some kinds of caterpillars. Treat caterpillars when they first appear and are actively feeding for best results. Safer’s BTK™ Biological Insecticide is most effective when caterpillars are small and young. This product is not effective on adult moths. Safer’s BTK™ Biological Insecticide is a stomach poison and therefore must be ingested by the caterpillar to be effective. After ingestion of a sufficient product dose, feeding stops immediately and death will follow in 2-5 days. Add some water to the sprayer and then add the correct amount of Safer’s BTK™ Biological Insecticide.

Uses a food and sex attractant to lure insects into the trap and disrupt the mating cycle. Controlled release system maximizes the life of the attractant and protects the attractant from environmental degradation. Ready-to-use includes trap, bait, and 2 bags. SAFER’S® JAPANESE BEETLE TRAP HOW TO ASSEMBLE: Slide vanes together at the slots to form a cross. Attach the twist tie by inserting about 10 cm through the holes in the top of the vane assembly, as shown in the diagram, and twist to secure the trap. Attach one of the disposable collection bags to the vane assembly by gently sliding the slits in the bag over the cutout hooks on the lower end of the trap vanes. Remove the bait from its protective package. Peel the protective cover from the Safer’s Japanese Beetle Trap Lure. Peel the backing from the back of the sex/floral lure (bait) and stick the bait onto the trap vane. DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PEEL APART THE BAIT. Best results are obtained by attaching the bait to the lower third of the trap vane. As trap catches decline, replace the bait. TRAP PLACEMENT AND USE: Place traps as beetles emerge or in early June to mid-July. Place traps on the upwind side of the plantings to be protected. Use at least one trap per 20 metres along two sides of garden perimeter. Do not enclose the garden with traps. Hang traps in sunny areas 1 to 2 metres above the ground from any suitable post or stand. Place traps at least 3 metres away from plantings as they will attract beetles to the foliage if placed closer. Replace bags when full.
